If you think that miracles are impossible, just remember that they happen even during the most desperate times. You can ask a dog named Poppie about it.
Poppie, a mix of German Shepherd and Chow Chow, has been suffering from cerebellar hypoplasia or CH, which means that her cerebellum isn’t fully developed. As a result, her mobility is compromised and she can’t feel pain. She was supposed to be euthanized, but a miracle happened an hour before the deadline.
Poppie’s painful past
The poor dog had been in and out of shelters since no one wanted to take care of her. This was because of her health condition and aggression.
Recently, she was taken to a California-based shelter and scheduled for euthanasia. But a foster mom named Diane Ewert, who was alerted by a friend about Poppie, arrived within an hour of the pup’s euthanasia schedule.
When Diane went to meet Poppie, the dog showed her immense excitement. She even came bursting through the doors to see Diane.
Poppie is now living her life to the fullest
When Diane took Poppie home, she introduced her to her pups one by one. While doing so, the kind woman realized that Poppie was misunderstood. She said that while everyone labeled Poppie as aggressive, all the dog actually wanted to do is to feel loved. It was clear to her that the dog just wanted to be close to someone who would respond to her reactiveness.
Diane did her best to find Poppie her forever home. And her efforts paid off after she found a couple named Christina and Garret from Canada.
The adopting couple gave Poppie a new name: Timber. And now, Timber lives a happy life together with Kona, her doggy sibling. She was also outfitted with a custom-built wheelchair that helped her move around and have fun.
Christina says that Timber is a ray of sunshine. She admires the dog’s can-do philosophy and never-give-up mindset.
