Roberta Ingham of Nashua, New Hampshire, went for a walk when she heard something strange that sounded like a cry for help. She was so perplexed that she stood up to look into it. Her neighbor had undoubtedly listened to the same thing, so she knew she was not just imagining things.
Roberta Ingham and her neighbors stepped in to see what was happening. They then located a woman and her dog trapped in the sewer. Ingham called the fire department right away.
Earlier that day, a dog got away from a woman on a stroll and ran into a nearby shallow culvert. The woman had no choice but to follow to save her puppy. But, on the other hand, she got too far into the pipe and was stuck.
Both the woman and her dog were startled and distressed by the incident. The water in the sewer was nearly waist-high for the poor puppy. The woman attempted to grasp the dog by the harness, but he had to tread water to keep afloat.
After receiving the call, Nashua Fire Rescue and EMTs responded quickly. The firefighters removed the maintenance hole cover before lowering a ladder into the narrow opening. A firefighter entered the trench to rescue the dog from the sewer. Another firefighter then arrived to help the woman climb out.
Neighbors were intrigued and came out to find out what was going on. They were astounded to see a dog and woman rescued from the sewer.
Fortunately, both the woman and the dog are unharmed. Because of cuts on her head, the woman was taken away in an ambulance, but she is now fine. The dog was apprehensive, but he was otherwise fine. Ingham considers it a miracle that both of them are still alive.
