A two-year-old pit bull named Willy Wonka lost his ears because of an accident. Despite this, this lovely pooch has remained sweet and bubbly. According to Sarah Varanini, a shelter manager, Willy lost only his ear flaps; thus, he can still hear.
Unfortunately, after two expensive visits to the vet, Willy’s fur dad could no longer afford to pay for the dog’s treatment. Thus, he surrendered him to the shelter, hoping the pooch would get the care he needed.
When Willy got to the animal shelter, he required extensive care to become healthy again. Despite his painful injuries, Willy remained trustful and was a good patient.
The pit bull fell in love with the staff, who also came to love the adorable pooch. John, a veterinary technician, was one of the people in the shelter who made a special bond with Will.
John worried that potential adopters might think of the pooch as mean or scary. Thus, he decided to crochet a hat with ears for Willy.
Fortunately, the vet tech had the right colors of yarn: pink and white to match the pit bull’s fur. In only one night, John created the perfect ears for Willy and put them on Willy’s head the following day.
In the beginning, the pit bull seemed confused. But upon receiving some treats while wearing the hat, Willy became more accepting of their little photo shoot. The employees at the shelter couldn’t help but take photos of the pooch wearing his crocheted ears.
As John and the other staff had hoped, the dog’s crocheted ears gained lots of attention. Not long after, Willy got adopted by a loving family.
According to Varanini, Willy is doing well in his new home. The pooch has even claimed a spot on his family’s couch and is getting along well with his new pup brother, Zeus.
Willy no longer needs the crocheted ears. But his former caregivers hope that his made-up ears continue to comfort him, reminding him of the beautiful friendships he made at the shelter.
