Dogs who grew up in tiny cages never experienced the life they deserve. In the worst cases, they reach the age of seniority without experiencing the joys of being a puppy.
This is what happened to a senior dog named Atlas, who was 16 years old when he finally got rescued.
Atlas was kept in a very small enclosure for most of his life. As a result, his fur was heavily matted, and his posture was crooked. He was only rescued when his owner’s neighbor reported his situation to an animal control agency.
The matted fur on Atlas was so severe that it took five people working together to remove it. The entire process took six grueling hours of work. After being rid of all the excess fur, he was able to maneuver his body better.
A woman named Dage volunteered to foster Atlas. After a while, Dage realized fostering him won’t be enough she opted to adopt him instead. She saw how fragile Atlas was at that time, so she just wanted to make him feel safe and secure.
While living with Dage, Atlas experienced a better lifestyle. He was never placed inside a crate, allowing him to feel the freedom of roaming around. He also became best friends with Nelson, Dage’s other dog. Overall, Atlas managed to experience new things that he’d never be able to experience in his previous living condition.
Dage’s level of care for Atlas was unlike anything else. She always watched him while he was walking around the house, ensuring he didn’t bump into anything. This was because of Atlas’s visual impairment. Dage also hired a physical therapist to help Atlas recover his legs’ range of motion.
Atlas got a new lease on life. There’s no other more accurate description for this scenario. His new life is Dage’s greatest gift for him, one that he will cherish for the rest of his remaining years.
