Firefighters Spent Hours Rescuing A German Shepherd That Fell In A 60-Foot Well

Firefighters Spent Hours Rescuing A German Shepherd That Fell In A 60-Foot Well

As responsible dog owners, we ensure that our dogs get the exercise they need by taking them outdoors to play. It’s a great way to keep them healthy and it’s also good for their mental health. Letting our dogs run outdoors is also a great way to let them use their energy, which helps prevent them from developing unwanted behaviors.

However, a German Shepherd named Indy got a little too curious and got into a dangerous situation that could have cost him his life. Indy is a nine-year-old retired police dog with a lot of energy. When his dad took him out to play on a property along with his other doggie siblings, he got a little too excited and curious that he fell into a 60-foot well right in front of his dad’s eyes.

Indy’s dad was concerned about Indy and immediately called for help. Thankfully, multiple fire crews responded along with the local police to help get Indy out of the well. Even with special equipment, it was still a very difficult task to rescue Indy.

The rescuers attempted to try different maneuvers to rescue Indy. They even lowered several specialized hooks and a lasso into the well but it failed to rescue Indy, who was already terrified of what happened to him. They considered lowering someone into the hole but it wasn’t an option since it was too deep.

Indy’s dad, who was retired military personnel, even begged the rescuers to lower him into the hole. However, because the situation was incredibly dangerous, not even firefighters trained to perform such rescue are allowed to be lowered into the hole.

The rescue crew was also worried that the hole might cave in due to the rain that had been affecting the area recently. The rescue attempt was made even more complicated since the hole didn’t go straight down. However, after four hours of attempting to rescue Indy, Indy lifted his head and the firefighter with the lasso was able to get the rope around Indy’s head.

As soon as they secured Indy, they pulled him right out of the hole. Indy was fine but he did sustain injuries from the fall. The cuts and bruises that he has will require several trips to the vet but his dad will be there to give him love and plenty of treats while he heals from his injuries. Here’s a video featuring Indy’s rescue.
