When we were just learning to obey simple rules and commands, we’ve all bungled it up a bit somewhere. Everyone does, and so did these Border Collie siblings.
They were six weeks old, so they had much room for trial and error. At this age, these puppies were all about fun and games, and they didn’t care much about anything other than that.
If it sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve been in a similar situation in the past. Sure, it’s not about stopping and going, but it’s about obedience alright.
Mom took her five collies out for a walk on the farm to check if they’d apply what she taught them. The wriggling black and white bodies made for an adorable sight, all scrambling after mom.
The puppies were excited to be out and about, so they enjoyed their surroundings. They wanted to go off and explore on their own, but mom kept on giving them commands.
Naturally, they listened to her. Dogs are intuitively loyal by nature, so mom had this advantage over them. She told them to stop, and everyone halted, looking at her to check if she was okay.
The point was for them to stop, so even if some laid on the ground and some sat, they passed with flying colors. These little ones were proving to be adept and obedient learners, and mom was so proud.
Mom gave the go command, and everybody almost tripped over each other. As expected, something by a tree caught all of their attention, and mom had to call them back.
The puppies scrambled back, and when mom gave the stop command everyone kept still. They had a long way to go, but at that age, they definitely looked promising.
Here’s to being excellent at your herding tasks, pups! We just know you’d do brilliantly in them.
