It is a sad reality in most animal shelters to see dogs waiting forever to get adopted. Numerous loving dogs get passed over since they are prevented from showing their real selves inside their cages.
This is the sad dilemma of Cano, a senior dog at the Orange County Animal Services (OCAS). Based on the dog’s record, he got rescued from a veterinary clinic. He was tied up there and was all alone.
Cano has been at the OCAS for 200 days already, and the volunteers mentioned that the dog had quite a hard time adjusting to the shelter life. According to the volunteers, this dilemma stems from the dog’s distrust of being with other dogs. It seems that Cano had a bad experience with other dogs.
Since Cano is one of the longest-staying dogs at the shelter, the volunteers did something to help him find a potential home. The volunteers used the power of social media to look for an adopter for Cano.
In August, the volunteers started posting photos of Cano on Facebook. In the captions of these photos, the volunteers explained Cano’s situation and history. These volunteers expressed optimism that through social media, Cano would be adopted soon.
However, a few months later, no one contacted the shelter about Cano. While saddening, this incident did not deter the volunteers’ spirit in helping the dog. The next thing they did was to come up with a billboard advertisement for Cano.
Still, days and months passed, and the dog is not yet adopted. But to the shelter’s surprise, a family visited the shelter and inquired about Cano.
During that same day, the family likewise processed all the needed documents for Cano’s adoption. According to the family who adopted the dog, Cano is a perfect fit for them. The family shared that they will do everything to help the dog move forward from a terrible past.
