As pet owners, making sure that our pets are well-cared for regardless of what happens to them is our responsibility. This includes illnesses and disabilities.
Dogs are very resilient creatures and can handle almost anything that comes their way. Some dogs can live a full and happy life even when they’re missing a leg. However, some cases can prove to be too difficult for the dogs to handle even for the owners.
Special needs dogs need owners that know how to take care of them. The extra responsibility and specialized care can prove to be too much for some people to handle.
Thankfully, there are animal rescue organizations that can help. Sidewalk Specials helped out a dog named Chuckie whose owner can no longer take care of him. Chuckie is one of the sweetest dogs that you can ever meet. He’s playful, very social, and also affectionate.
Unfortunately, Chuckie started going blind when he was four years old. His owner wanted to keep him but could no longer safely care for him. Chuckie’s family wanted to give him the best life that he could possibly get and they knew that they could never give it to him.
Chuckie’s family decided to surrender him to Sidewalk Specials. After visiting the vet, it was confirmed that Chuckie’s left eye was completely blind and was also partially blind on his right.
However, Sidewalk Specials knew that although Chuckie was blind or getting very close to it, it doesn’t mean that he won’t find happiness. There are quite a lot of people out there who know how to care for blind dogs.
Sidewalk Specials are giving Chuckie a second chance and is actively finding a new forever home for him. Chuckie may have problems with his vision but he still loves meeting and playing with other dogs. Chuckie also learned to follow sounds and shadows and he’s no different from other dogs. Here’s a video featuring Chuckie getting a second chance at happiness.
