Several professional football players do not think of their retirement as a blessing. What this only means for them is that they are no longer fit. But Joe Hawley believes otherwise. For the former Tampa Bay star, retirement is a chance to enjoy doing things outside the sport. This is the reason why he was so happy after he got released from the national football league. Later on, Joe decided to rescue a dog.
Joe’s decision to rescuing a dog, though, did not come in an instant. After his former team decided not to renew his contract, Joe saw this as a blessing to start a new life. He immediately decided to donate some of his earnings to charity, sold his car, and bought a new van to kickstart a new chapter.
According to Joe, he has always been a dog lover. But due to the rigorous and time-consuming life of an athlete, he did not get a chance to have one. This time, though, the former football star has all the time in the world to pet a dog. This is why he did not waste the opportunity to adopt the pooch.
Joe knew what kind of dog he wants, so he took his time to find the right partner. Soon enough, Joe found the perfect dog at a kennel. In an interview, Joe shared how he met Ashleigh, his new dog companion. He said that he saw the pooch shivering inside the cage. From there, Joe knew that Ashleigh was the perfect fit for him.
True enough, the dog built an instant connection. Joe found the happiness he did not feel when he was still playing in the football field. Joe said that it was Ashleigh who filled the void that his heart wanted from the very beginning.
