It’s always challenging to part with our beloved pets. This heartbreaking story illustrates the bond between a 17-year-old boy and his cherished dog. Despite judgmental looks from bystanders during the dog’s drop-off, the boy knew he did the right thing.
Responsibility calls
A homeless boy and his puppy, Jada, lived under a bridge in Mississippi. The boy and his pet grew up together and were frequently spotted gathering scraps of food in nearby establishments. They went through all types of hardships, yet their friendship remained strong.
When the boy turned seventeen, he realized he couldn’t get enough food and money to support himself and the dog. After many sleepless nights, he decided that the best thing to do was find Jada a better home.
One morning, the boy gathered his dog’s belongings inside a black trash bag and walked him to the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter. Jada looked confused about what was happening, but the boy looked at him sadly.
The shelter was almost at total capacity, yet the staff couldn’t say no. They kept Jada inside the main facility while the dog watched his owner slowly walk away.
Glimmer of hope
A few hours after the boy left, a staff member saw Jada in the same position as when her owner left. The person snapped a photo of the dog and uploaded it to the shelter’s social media page along with their sad story,
Hundreds of dog lovers in the area felt heartbroken for the dog and his human. Many fans offered help by giving temporary shelter or finding the homeless boy a job. The local church also wanted to donate to help with the boy’s needs.
The shelter staff had difficulty contacting the boy but did their best to list all the offered assistance. The team promised to update social media followers if there was new information.
In the meantime, Jada was placed into a loving foster home. The shelter staff will keep a close eye out for the boy in hopes of getting a wonderful reunion soon.
