Luke was just a puppy when Christine Moran adopted him from the Southampton Animal Shelter, a nonprofit rescue organization. The young New York resident said that the small brown pup looked very adorable and stood out in the shelter.
Like most puppies, Luke was very playful and curious. He loves to venture outside their home and almost always runs wherever he goes. The hyperactive pooch is the apple of his mom’s eye. That’s why Christine was crushed when she learned that her pet got severely injured.
Hit and run
Luke’s tragic accident when he was somehow able to escape their fenced-in yard one day. While running across a busy street, a speeding car hit him hard. The driver didn’t stop to help the dog out, but luckily, witnesses rushed him to an animal hospital. He was alive, but barely.
The medical team assessed his condition, and they found that his lungs were injured, and he had several fractures in his hips and shoulders. While waiting to get the surgery, he needed an oxygen tank to help him breathe. It took quite a while before his lungs could function properly.
Christine was notified of the accident, and she rushed to the hospital right away. The worried dog owner told the medical team to do whatever is needed to be done to save her precious pet.
Raising funds
The hospital told Christine that Luke’s treatments might cost as much as 10,000 dollars. The dog mom was stunned at first, but she was willing to pay the bill as long as her rescue pup survived. The young lady got a loan of 5,000 dollars and is now looking to family, friends, and anyone generous enough to help her out.
Christine has started an online fundraising campaign hoping that she can get enough money to cover all the costs. The vets assured her that although it would take time for Luke to recover fully, the young pup would survive.
