When John Hwang first encountered a ten-year-old shelter dog huddled and terrified in a corner, he somehow knew it would probably avoid his affection. However, she surprised him by showing how sweet and loving she could be. Eventually, this personality also made her win the hearts of people worldwide.
Hwang first set his sights on a dog named Annabelle at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter and took to Facebook to post several heartbreaking photos. Netizens were quick to respond and began sharing her story in hopes of finding someone willing to take her out of her dreadful shelter situation. Despite being fragile and scared, They knew she had much love to give if only the right person came along, despite how weak and scared she seemed. It didn’t take long before someone stepped up and noticed her.
A volunteer for the Leashes of Love Rescue, Inc. came across the post and wanted to help poor Annabelle. She informed the staff about the canine and arranged for them to meet her the following day. They decided to take her out of the shelter as soon as they met the darling creature. Suffice to say that Annabelle was delighted to be out of her lonely enclosure forever!
President Taunya Huffman Henley of Leashes of Love Rescue had nothing but good words about Annabelle in an interview with The Dodo. She described her as an energetic, loving canine who had calm energy and loved being held.
After being taken out of shelter confinement, they took Annabelle to a vet, who declared that the pup was not in the best shape. They found out she had a tumor on her head, an eye infection, dental issues, and skin irritation. Fortunately, we’re happy to announce that all of those were immediately treated.
Annabelle recovered in her foster home, where she loved every minute of it. During the first days in her new abode, she slept beside her foster mom and refused to leave her side. She is also enjoying life together with her other doggie foster siblings.
Henley is confident that the pup will feel better once she is done with all of her medical treatment.
From being passed up in a shelter to living a life where people love and dote on her all day, Annabelle has definitely gone a long way! Despite being a senior canine, she still has so much love left to give and is looking quite forward to finding a permanent home with whom she can share all that love!
