Matt Pickar’s daughter, Violet, loves dogs so much. Since she was a kid, she’s always asked her dad if they could go get a dog. It was heartbreaking, but he had to tell her she can’t over and over again.
Violet’s first best friend was Uncle Bailey, her grandparents’ dog. She was obsessed with him from the very first time they met, and she had to go on every walk with him. And so, her first word was ‘dog’ instead of ‘dad.’
No one was better at making violet laugh except for Uncle Bailey. But it wasn’t just him, it was literally every dog she met. But the sad part is, every time Violet interacted with one, she ran the risk of having a severe allergic reaction, and that’s the reason why Matt said no every time she asked for a puppy.
Violet’s condition kept the entire family from keeping a dog of their own. Besides that, Matt also had to make sure to keep his daughter away from them. It wasn’t a fun thing to do, he said, but it was necessary. And what made things worse is that his other daughter Maisie could pet dogs but not Violet.
It could have been easy for the family to get a hypoallergenic puppy from a breeder, but it was extremely important for them to get a rescue dog instead. So while he wanted to grant his daughter’s wish right away, it took a bit of research to find one.
Matt spoke with several rescue organizations, but most of them didn’t have the right dog until he got in contact with Cassie’s Place in Tom Green County in Texas. Michelle, a volunteer worker of the group, thought Chloe would be a perfect match for Matt and his girls. And she was absolutely right.
Chloe is a Maltese that was picked up as a stray in West Texas and had been in foster care for a while. She’s about 2 or 3 years old, enjoys car rides, and loves children so much. She’s everything Violet needed.
It was a dream come true, not just for Violet but for the entire family. Chloe, later on, renamed Olive, loves her human sisters so much. Olive is Violet’s perfect match.
