Gigi was a pregnant Basset Hound found by animal control living on the side of the road. She was taken to Whitney & Triangle Beagle Rescue where she met her foster mother.
Meeting Gigi
When Gigi was brought to the shelter, Whitney, the founder, immediately volunteered to foster her. She knew that Gigi needed a lot of help since judging by her belly, she was going to give birth at any moment.
Whitney took Gigi home and the dog instantly felt comfortable. Gigi was happy Whitney and even tried to venture around her foster mom’s yard but unfortunately got stuck in the doggy door because of her size.
Whitney created a safe space for Gigi to give birth. She was nervous since she didn’t have any idea if the puppies would turn out underdeveloped or extremely malnourished.
After a few hours, Whitney noticed that Gigi began panting heavily. The dog stopped eating as well which was a sign that she was going to give birth.
Forever homes
Whitney was shocked when eleven healthy puppies were delivered. Six boys and five girls were the fruit of Gigi’s pregnancy.
The puppies stayed with their mom underneath the light to keep them warm. Gigi was the best mother to them and stayed with them at all times. Since there were too many puppies, Gigi couldn’t nurse all of them so Whitney bottle-fed the few who couldn’t breastfeed.
As the puppies grew older, dozens of people applied to adopt them. At ten weeks, all eleven puppies moved to their forever homes.
Whitney was emotional about the dogs getting adopted but she knew they all deserved good lives. Fortunately, after a week, a nice family visited Whitney and applied to adopt Gigi.
Whitney was thrilled that all twelve dogs had their own forever families. Dogs like Gigi are the reason why Whitney began her rescue shelter and what keeps her motivated.
