Sassy is a nine-year-old Chihuahua that was adopted by Marie Alexander. The 92-year-old woman from Florida needed a companion and rescued the senior pooch from a local shelter. Ever since the dog came into Marie’s life, the two were inseparable.
Marie never goes anywhere without her dog. Although they spend most of their time inside the house, sitting in their favorite chair, the two would go out from time to time, and they would always be by each other’s side.
Even a simple task of getting the mail meant that it was a job for both of them.
Looking for help
One morning, Marie and Sassy went out together to collect their mail when the senior lady suddenly twisted her ankle. She fell down beside her fence where there were thick bushes lined up. The shrubbery covered the old woman, and no one could see her from the street. She tried shouting, but her frail voice was not enough to attract attention.
Amazingly, Sassy, who is known to be quiet most of the time, started barking continuously. She seemed to know that her owner was in distress, and she needed to find help for her. Not content with just barking, the small chihuahua even went out to the sidewalk. She started barking and running after cars and people that passed by.
In the meantime, Marie couldn’t move from her spot and was getting dehydrated and burned by the scorching sun. This went on for the next five hours.
Help comes
Thankfully, a young couple walking by noticed Sassy and realized that the yapping chihuahua was trying to tell them something. They stopped walking and decided to follow her inside the property. The feisty dog then led them to the injured woman who was still lying on the ground.
The couple immediately called for emergency medical services, and Marie was taken to a hospital. She was treated for dehydration, sunburn, and bug bites. It really didn’t take long for her to recover and go back home.
